A more in-depth answer would be that I intend to have him side with the Cadens faction as I feel it aligns with his in-series goal of ending the reign of weaponized Titans. I read on the FAQ that returning home doesn't seem to be a plot point for the game, and while I'll readily admit that may make it difficult to get him invested in the conflict, I do intend on exploring how he'll apply his ideals to a world he has no personal investment in.

What I would find interesting would be whether or not he can maintain the same drive for a war where no side can provide him what he desires, as it is a deeply personal desire of his that could only reasonably be achieved within his own world. To that end, he would manipulate anyone from his enemies, to his dearest friends, and even innocent children. How would he continue moving forward when his primary motivation becomes unattainable? Could he fight even half as hard when his reason for fighting is hardly even there?
Powers:
Practically speaking, Eren's powers are rather limited in scope; he has regeneration which can restore even lost limbs and functions so long as his spinal cord isn't severed, and the ability to transform into a 15-meter-tall giant that shares his ability to regenerate, though in a much more amplified manner. In this form, which is known as a "Titan," he can harden his body to create a sort of armored shell, though it's most powerful when focused on small parts of his body, such as his knuckles. He can also create structures not a part of his body, which he can form into shapes as he pleases, such as spikes or simple weaponry.

Outside of the supernatural, he also has immense capabilities as a soldier, being one of the finest of his country's military, as well as likely being the most experienced hand-to-hand fighter in his world; he can shoot a rifle, ride a horse, and has great acrobatic skill, along with a level of stamina that is generally unmatched.

Note: there's a few paragraphs worth of explanation on how this all works on a more metaphysical level and if you'd like to know more just let me know! I feel like the source of the powers and powers he only has under specific circumstances shouldn't really be much of a concern since I don't intend on using them in such a way, but I know for plot purposes it may be important.
PERSONALITY QUESTIONS

Describe an important event in your character's life and how it impacted them.

There is a day in Eren's life more important than any other; that day is the day Eren lost everything. His hometown was attacked and overrun with monsters. His house was reduced to rubble in the chaos, and trapped underneath it all was his mother, who he saw eaten alive before his eyes. And although the truth of it wouldn't come to light until many years later, his father, thought to have disappeared, was devoured by Eren himself that very same night.

The events of that day dictated the path he would take for the rest of his life. Filled with a greater sense of purpose than anyone else, that ten-year-old boy grew into a man, a soldier - who would seek not only revenge for his mother; with the power he inherited from his father, he was given the means to fight for his freedom.
Does your character have a moral code, or other set of standards they try to live by?
All Eren does is in pursuit of freedom. The idea of being free, to him, is so important to who he is as a person that when riddled with doubts or otherwise shaken, Eren thinks about freedom and feels himself well up with strength. His most character defining monologues are of how people, from the moment they're born into this world, are free.

His morals branch out from there, but only slightly. He says himself that if anyone tries to take his freedom away, he has no issue taking theirs - meaning, their lives. Eren doesn't shy away from use of force, something which he's come to realize is necessary if one means to realize their goals in a world that wants them dead.
What quality or qualities do they admire most?
Eren finds himself capable of respecting anyone who is able to accept the consequences of their actions, and is especially intrigued by those who are able to act according to their own will. If one's heart is in the right place, Eren has nothing but respect. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop him from using people like tools when they just want to help him out - but the sentiment is there, at least.

Ultimately, this is an extension of how much importance he places on freedom; if one doesn't act according to their own will, are they truly free? If they can't handle what comes as a result of the choices they made, doesn't their regret put into question whether or not it was worth the price they paid? The people that can push themselves through hell see life differently than those who let themselves be pushed around, and that is what Eren considers a valuable strength.
Do they have a part of themselves they dislike?
There is a part of Eren, call it an insecurity if you will, that scares him. It's the thought that he may not be as free as he would like. At a military ceremony when he was fifteen, he bared witness to a vision of future events. In the years since, he's struggled with the idea that the future, being set in stone, means that his actions have all be predetermined and that there isn't any freedom to seek in the first place. He's tested the future, and it's disappointed him in its inability to be changed. The tragedies of his life and all potential hope for the future being reduced to little more than a script for him to follow is terrifying enough that even toying with the idea chills him to the bone.

But there is some small comfort in realizing, as he eventually does, that no matter how predetermined the future is, it was he who determined it. His own will has extended itself into the past, present, and future in order to forge an outcome of his own desire. In his own words, "All of this was what I wanted."
What is their sign, and why?
The Hanged Man. In part due to his role as Paradis' greatest defense against the outside world, Eren has experienced great isolation. There are scant few who he can open up to, and fewer still who can even begin to grasp what he's going through and why. The events of the past year too have only deepened the gap between him and those he called his dear friends, and given that those have all been a result of his own actions, what does that say about how willing he is to impose this isolation unto himself?
SAMPLES & ARRIVAL

Samples: #1, top level with four comments and #2, another top level with four comments. If these aren't valid, let me know and I can dig up older threads that are longer - I just prefer using fresher samples!

Arrival Scenario: Imprisoned. There is no way he wouldn't kick up a fuss being taken away from his world.

comments

Placed in a situation which necessitates either the death of his race or that of the rest of the world, Eren spends years struggling to come up with a solution that sacrifices neither. This anguish torments him, eats away at him for as long as he has to deliberate on it, until eventually the despair has left only the mission, and himself to complete it. Eren, for better or for worse, made his choice, and though it kills him to do it, he'll keep on moving forward until his enemies are destroyed.

How strongly do they feel about the negative subject matter, on the scale of one to ten?: Ten. It is his, and at the same time, his series' central conflict, which asks the reader if they themselves could justify their choice the way Eren did.

What is their greatest virtue?: His uncompromising morality. Faced with a terrible choice between his people and the rest of the world, Eren chooses his own, an option that sentences mankind to extinction. Why he does this is a simple matter of what it means to him to be free; he would rather end the world than let a singular girl and her children suffer, becoming livestock to perpetuate a cycle that necessitates their sacrifices. To him, that is more important, more justifiable than surrendering himself and his country to the desires of humanity, desires which would spell doom for him and everyone he loves.

How aware are they of their virtue, on a scale from one to ten?: Ten. At some point, the thought occurred to him that were his island to take on the sins that the world imposed onto them, far fewer people would die than if he were to enact his plan to rumble the rest of the world underfoot. But an end like that was one he could not abide by, and so he remains unyielding.

Items: A spare hooded jacket. His rifle and bayonet, with a box of ammunition.

Samples: log #1
log #2
log #3

Special notes

comments

See background section.
<details>
PHYSICAL INFO;

APPEARANCE: At a glance, Eren is the type of person most would avoid. Standing at 183cm1 and weighing roughly 92kg2, his figure is imposing at the best of times. Most often, he's outright threatening, and if his hands are kept in his pockets it's a telltale sign that he's ready to fight at a moment's notice. His lengthy black hair is usually held in a hasty bun at the back of his head so it doesn't interfere with his vision. His eyes are grey and often set into a glare. Otherwise, his body language is generally unconcerned. He keeps clean shaven most of the time.

VOICE: Even and measured, Eren's voice tends to stay completely under his control. This also has the effect of keeping it relatively deep, and he's made a habit of sounding about as low and gritty as he can get since he was a child. At times however, he can get quite loud and emotional through it - often, this is in a fight. Played by Yuuki Kaji in the anime adaptation; here's a short example of what Eren at this stage of his life should sound like - mostly somber.

SCENT: Not like much anything, honestly. If he's done housework, he smells of the detergent he's been using, but otherwise he keeps clean. Supposing he's had a drink too many, he may reek of alcohol, but it doesn't linger. As far as body washes go, he'll take what he can get, but favors soaps that remind him of the outdoors.

NOTES: 16'. 2202lbs.

</details><details>
BACKGROUND;

NOTES: n/a.

</details><details>
PERSONALITY;

NOTES: n/a.

</details><details>
LIKES AND DISLIKES;

LIKES: People who make choices of their own free will, regardless of circumstances.

A quick conversation with Eren reveals that he's nothing but quick conversations. He keeps things short, tries his best to get to the point, and will walk out of talks entirely if he feels there's no point to it. It's plainly obvious that he values sorting matters out above all else.

In short, he acts like a professional, with the composure to match. It's incredibly difficult for him to lose it, and if he ever does act out of order, it's due to outside interference. He himself manages to be oddly serene. He doesn't sweat.

 Muscular

Standing at a height of six feet tall, Eren tends to have an imposing figure - his back is broad, his eyes are killer, and his body is weathered from years of combat. He's got more muscle than he knows what to do with. Looks older than he is.

Besides that, he tends to dress in subdued, professional clothing, always without color save for the occasional olive drab. His face is generally clean shaven, and his black hair drawn behind his head in a bun. He is free of just about any scars, despite his wealth of experience facing death.

He is hardly ever seen without some form of equipment attached to him in some way, be it a plate carrier, a gas mask, or a gun strapped across his front.

 A START

Born and raised far from the city of New Amsterdam, Eren spent most of his life in a mega city somewhere around the southern end of the African continent. His father was a highly respected doctor, and it was looking like Eren was going to follow in his footsteps, until tragedy struck - his parents were murdered before he had hit his teens, and he was left without any living relatives. Becoming a ward of the state, he eventually joined the local police force out of a desire to seek justice.

 LIFE AFTER

Some time after taking up his duty, he followed a lead about his parent's murder that led him across the ocean to the mega city of New Amsterdam. He's currently in between jobs at the moment, however, having to wait for the transfer process to complete.

 PROTECT THE INNOCENT

Not wanting to waste his time waiting until something interesting happened, he began to take up detective and private security jobs - thus far, nothing too high grade, but enough to get his foot in the door. His previous experience and time in the force allowed him to get a license to carry firearms, which was really half the reason he wanted this backstory in the first place.

A man has appeared who opposes King Fritz's peaceful world. This man is a rebel against peace. And his name is..."
Eren is everything you would expect from a villain. He's reliant on violence, manipulation, and believes the ends justify the means. His enemies call him the usurper, having stolen the power of a king from its rightful owners. He's an unstoppable force that the entire world must band against or be itself destroyed by his wrath.

All this, and he hasn't even hit his twenties.

There was once a point where Eren was a hero. Where he was known by his friends as an idealistic, if block-headed, individual, whose recklessness was almost inspiring. He had his eyes on the horizon, always dreaming of the day that people could live their lives freely, without fear of being eaten alive by monsters. He figured - if those enemies were gone, they'd be free. In order to make that happen, he vowed to kill them all. Unfortunately for him, life wasn't that simple. It's never that simple.

As a child, he was aimless up until the point he discovered there was more to the world than simply lazing about and waiting for something to happen. He learned of a vast world outside of the walls that supposedly protected them - of fire that flowed like water, of vast fields of ice, of massive tracts of sand, and of a great expanse of water called the ocean. The idea that the world could be bigger than what he knew hadn't even hit him until then. He was in perpetual awe at the very thought of it, and yet before the idea of exploring it for himself could settle in, he was angry.

The world was so big, and yet he couldn't see it. That's what irritated him. There were obstacles in his way, and he had to get rid of them if he were to be free. That way of thinking set the foundations for who he is now. What sets him apart from others is his will to fight. Where others were afraid of the terror that lay outside the walls, he willingly pushed himself into that hell because he saw something different at the end. Whatever it was, he didn't know, but in order to see it for himself, he had to keep moving forward - at any cost.

That's who he is - pure, unfettered determination. He is a man of focus and sheer will. If he needs to get something done, he will make sure it is done with utmost certainty. It's part of what makes him a good soldier. It's part of what makes him such a terrifying enemy. He absolutely will not stop until the fight's over. And the fight's only over once one side of it is dead.

On a lighter note, it makes him an incredibly hard worker. He's spent most of his life doing manual labor without any complaints, and most will note that he's outright inspiring to those who lack his excessive willpower. He's able to provide advice and genuinely cares for those that need help, offering wisdom in their time of need. That said, his brand of advice is a very specific one, which generally boils down to doing what needs to be done.

He's not much of a people person beyond that - he was labelled an introvert without any friends by his own father, and doesn't really care about fixing that issue. What friends he does have were made in training, and even those relations are often strained by how unnaturally focused on the war effort he is. Those that are close to him in spite of that are, in his eyes, valuable beyond belief. He would start wars for their sake.

As you'd expect, it's not a trait they seem to like.

When the stakes get high, he tends to leave his friends behind and try to solve issues on his own. Due to his role as his country's greatest weapon, he often finds himself isolated from the rest of the other soldiers - his mindset is tough to understand unless you have lived through what he has. And that's difficult, considering he's lived through the lives of countless other people - through his supernatural abilities, he inherited the memories of his father and his predecessor, as well as having seen snippets of the lives of many who had come before him.

It's made him taciturn and quiet where he was once loud and wordy, withdrawn and reserved where once he couldn't help sticking his nose where he didn't belong, calm and cool-headed where once the flames of hatred and anger burned furiously. Some might see this change as a good thing - no one likes a brat. But would you really prefer him to be an irredeemable murderer? He even says it himself - "He's right. He's exactly right. I'm the bad guy. I might just destroy the world."

What does one have to see to make such a change?

What he's seen is violence. Generations of war built upon a foundation of corpses. It's a history that many would find hard to stomach. He's been witness to the worst of what mankind has to offer, and understands beyond his years that diplomacy, appealing to what some call "humanity", is a pointless effort. In the end, everyone falls back on force to get their way, and he's no different. He can't afford to be any different. The only way to change anything is to fight, and fight. To keep moving forward.

Until the enemy is wiped out.

CRAU: n/a.

SPECIES: Eldian. There's nothing separating him from humans besides the fact that in his series he can turn into a Titan and utilize some metaphysical powers. Obviously this wouldn't apply here.
APPEARANCE: full body here
SKILLS:
Eren's spent most of his life in the military. He's a trained soldier through and through, and part of the elite - for reference, he graduated within the top five of his class, coming just behind a girl with superpowers and three others that had prior military training. Every soldier is trained in the vertical maneuvering gear, a sort of grappling hook that flies in conjunction with pressurized gas that spews out from a mechanism contained on the lower back. In order to perform maintenance on it, soldiers are trained extensively in engineering. In order to use it, soldiers must be incredibly lithe and acrobatic, able to see the battlefield in three dimensions as opposed to the two when you're limited to the ground. Notable other skills include unarmed combat, horseback riding, and strategy. He himself is particularly skilled in hand-to-hand, making top of his class with it. After the advent of more modern technology (in his series, modern would mean WW1 era) within his country, he spent practically every waking moment practicing with weaponry such as bolt-action rifles and clip-fed pistols.

NEW POWER:
Regeneration. Damage done to the body is healed at a much faster rate than normally capable, and even the loss of body parts such as teeth and bone will be reversed with time. Small cuts and bruises close up in seconds, while internal damage to complex organs takes much longer. Severed limbs can take days or weeks depending on the severity of damage done. However, one can expediate the process by expending their own blood. The caveat to this power is that loss of blood cannot be recouped. As such, it's very necessary to maintain moderate levels of blood within the body, otherwise one risks fainting and, at extreme levels of injury, certain death. In many cases, you would be better off admitting yourself to a hospital instead of relying only on one's own ability.
POWER REASONING:
Eren fights. A lot. It's his life. As such, a power that complements his ability to fight by allowing him to fight for longer periods of time and shrug off wounds fits him well. That and the fact that he can also canonically regen makes me feel that having such a power, even if it's not the same as before, works best with how he is.

> SAMPLES
SAMPLE ONE: here
SAMPLE TWO: here

comments

Eren's often described by Isayama, the author, as "a slave to the story." What this is generally taken to mean is that, no matter how hard he tries to fight against the inevitable tragedy that the story sets up, he can't go against what the author wants for him. That's just the way it is, there's no helping it. And Eren absolutely despises that.

When you think "shonen protagonist", the first thing that'll generally come to your mind is a youthful, wide-eyed optimist that's always smiling. And while these things are present in Eren to some extent, he exists almost to spite those tropes. He's youthful only because he's still a teenager, but he's carrying more trauma and weight on his shoulders than most people twice his age and acts oftentimes like a cranky old man, with all that grumpiness in tow. He's wide-eyed, but with a killer glare and sharp eyes that make you think twice about breaking the ice with him. And if he's smiling, something awfully wrong is about to happen.

Though there are a few traits mixed in there that hold true to those tropes. He's always made out to be the one who does his utmost in just about anything. His determination to flat out get shit done is a key point to his character. The takeaway from that is that even if he finds something useless, it would be even more useless to waste your time on it. There's no half-assing anything with him.

He is good to the people around him, but it's done in a manner that's more befitting of classroom students than that of heartfelt companions for life. There are his two close friends, but he's always leaving them behind because he has things that need doing, and he doesn't want them around to see. He admires the hell out of the top-class soldiers of the scouts, but is brutally shown firsthand that they're not all they're played out to be. He's very rarely intimate and shows his deepest worries only in mortal turmoil. They otherwise never escape the confines of his own head.

And then there's his sense of justice. Where most protagonists face moral crisis and become half-baked when it comes to taking measures of violences any more extreme than energy blasts and punches, Eren was shanking the bad guys at the age of nine. Oh, his morality certainly exists -- it's just that he's so very well aware of what needs to be done to save lives that he, as previously mentioned, is willing to go above and beyond in order to be moral.

Though that isn't to say he doesn't experience moral crisis. It's just that up until a certain point in his life, he had never had to consider otherwise. It comes after not only one, but two major betrayals in his life, and thereafter many bloody battles, but he later on reflects that violence might not be the answer to everything. It might not even win them their freedom. It's his fallback, his method of saving lives. It's also terribly painful for both sides of the fight. For someone who had, his whole life, fought for freedom, it's a sign of development to not only be conflicted, but to question whether or not it's the right thing.

Eren, first and foremost, is a fighter. He's got to stand against something, otherwise he becomes so aimless that he might as well be dead. A normal, ordinary life wasn't something he ever considered a possibility. He's a rebel, right down the metalhead hairstyle. There's something about struggling that, to him, has an intrinsic value. Believing that the only path to victory is one you fought for, he wants to make meaningless deaths meaningful by continuing their legacy. As long as he moves forward, there is no chance in hell that the people before him died pointlessly. Because he's there to carry on.

And though that must come off as dramatic...that's just who he is. He's fairly dramatic all on his own, with a certain level of flair and eloquency that's noted even as a young kid. Despite being a touch antisocial in his youth, he still managed to dream big and talk bigger, and was fortunate enough to be blessed with a vigor that wins people over. As an adult, this is only furthered by his own experiences in life and he becomes even more articulate, sometimes even slipping in half-truths and double meanings into his words.

Though previously described as a rebel, it's well worth noting that he's not especially against structure. He most definitely understands its necessity in any civilized society. He's not gonna complain about a system that fed him most of his life, though he will openly criticize what's obviously corrupt. More importantly, he's such a capable worker that he ranked fifth in a company of two-hundred recruits all desperately trying to get into the top ten just so they could get a ticket to the easy life in the MPs. Eren, meanwhile, got into there because he was simply that good.

Making it to the top of the class wasn't something he was aiming for particularly, it's just that to him, self-improvement is fully necessary to succeed in life. The sort of guy who could break his back working, and still get right back to it once he was out of the hospital. He did, in fact, nearly work himself to death at one point.

In the day to day life he very rarely indulges in, that workaholic attitude extends to other people as well. He's generally stern, firm, and in some areas even rigid. If people aren't playing to their strengths or are giving up from the outset, he's more than just bothered, he's often openly irritated and doesn't hesitate to use some harsh words every now and then. He's sworn like a sailor since he was a little kid. Of course, he's not all brutish vocabulary, as he's more than simply sarcastic and generally rather snarky. He's got a lot of wit, and uses it rather casually.

He gets into quite a few arguments over the course of the series, some ranging from simple slights to debates over the fate of mankind, the worth of their lives, and the true value of freedom in the face of an overwhelming enemy. He's more than just reflective, with his musings often being insightful and a window to the themes of the story that he's set in. What ruins him and empties him of all passion to fight is the truth of the world outside the walls -- ironically, the very same truth he had desired to know since he was a child.

As an adult, the conflict that had been tearing him apart seems to have settled. That hot-headedness of his is almost entirely absent, and though he remains a character within the series, the point of view has switched him from the role of protagonist to, quite possibly, the antagonist. And it's really rather easy to see why. He's always been an easy one to dislike, and even within the story itself he's readily made into public enemy number one for the whole world to see. He's easy to demonize. The same way he was ready to demonize his own enemies without knowing the whole truth.

And yet there's a level of understanding, present like always, that's given to the last remaining target for Eren's justice. He acknowledges that the motivations were good, a sort of luxury that the man himself was never afforded. By anyone. Eren was the victim of a terrible tragedy, he and everyone else within the walls. It's an act so heinous that the perpetrator had the wrong end of a rifle in his mouth just a few chapters ago. To extend the understanding that what he's done was originally connected to good intentions speaks volumes of Eren's growth and comprehension of the situation they're both stuck in.

Where those aforementioned enemies previously had complete control due to Eren himself being in the dark for the most part, with Eren in their place, he's able to set up a situation where he has completely turned the tables on his opponents and can bluff without hesitation. Threats and manipulation aren't exactly beyond his facade. He's done his homework. With his sworn enemy in front of him, he's able to keep absolutely calm and judge him the way he's been wanting to. They've both been waiting for this moment since that fateful day. The perpetrator is there to face his crimes, and Eren's there to deal the sentence as both the judge and the executioner.
Powers/Abilities:
trained military. — As it would imply, he's trained military with all the rigorous discipline and knowledge that comes with it. Every soldier is trained in the vertical maneuvering gear, a sort of grappling hook that flies in conjunction with pressurized gas that spews out from a mechanism contained on the lower back. In order to perform maintenance on it, soldiers are trained in engineering. Notable other skills include unarmed combat, horseback riding, and strategy. He himself is particularly skilled in hand-to-hand, making top of his class with it.
regeneration. — He can regenerate everything from his balls to his brain given enough time. The caveat is if his spine is lethally damaged, he's dead for good.
titan shifting. — Triggered via wounds, he can explosively summon and pilot (from within) a fifty-foot-tall <s>Zyzz clone</s> emo giant. It, too can regenerate. He also can harden the body and create detailed structures with it.
coordinate. — Though it's generally used for mind control, its full power is implied to be godlike, with its influence reigning outside of time and space. Eren, for the most part, unintentionally uses it to view the memories of those he has inherited Titan shifting from to the point where it's as he himself has lived their lives in some capacity (most notably being his father and his namesake, Eren Kruger). However, it mostly stays clouded in mystery until further explanation of its power levels comes up in the series.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): I personally have no intention of utilizing the coordinate in its full capacity until it's revealed in canon what that really even implies. Which probably won't be for a long time. I'd like to just keep it as a memory viewer so that I can mess around with Eren's disassociation here and there. His vertical maneuvering gear is already kinda nerfed by the need to buy gas with AC, so...I'll leave the rest to mod discretion?

Inventory:
-a really really really dirty military uniform + at least two pounds of dirt scattered over his body.
-a crutch.
-his vertical maneuvering gear + swords. (This would be his special request for weapon.)
Incentives: <s>is "freedom" too vague a request</s>
I suppose the Natha would know about the curse that's gonna kill at the ripe age of 23, so maybe he'd want to be cured of it if it's ever brought up. Knowing him, he doesn't really care as long as his people are freed, which they already are by virtue of being in stasis, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He'll be working to pay them back for their favor. They did save his world, after all, which is more than can be said for anyone that ever lived on it.

SAMPLES

-tdm top level

comments

Which might just be his intent. As far as first impressions go, he's pretty much always frowning or otherwise impassive - he's difficult to read and tries not to let anything show.

Generally, he'll be clean-shaven and keeps his hair out of his eyes by tying it back - supposedly, he's trying really hard to make it seem like he doesn't care about his appearance.

MENTAL INFORMATION:
His head's a mess you don't want anything to do with. Trust me. It's a mishmash of centuries of memories, the strongest of which tend to be violent and terrifying. He manages to maintain himself through sheer force of will where others would have been broken, and doesn't often lose his composure. At times, he can be influenced by the aforementioned memories, but it's rare.

If it comes up in threads, I imagine we'll have discussed it beforehand, so you won't need to worry about any of this, really.

OPT OUT;

UNWANTED SCENARIOS:
Anything is fine, but if you're concerned feel free to bring it up privately.

ADDITIONAL PERMISSIONS:
n/a

NOTES: please for the love of god give this man a haircut

comments

Eren exists as a product of his environment; without such extenuating circumstances, he would not be the person who he is today. Born into a world where humans were kept in line by terrifying giants just outside their gates, his most earnest desire was to see what the world freed from this menace. In other words, liberty.

Childish dreams can't get you anywhere all on their own, however. He only got as far as the young age of ten before his life as he knew it was torn from beneath him and turned into a living hell. His town lost, his family brutally killed before his eyes, and the freedom he sought falling ever further from his grasp was enough to make him swear vengeance. His tragedy was one of many countless others, and so was his anger. But would anyone else make it as far as he did in the same situation?

What defines Eren on the surface is an almost suicidal determination to keep moving forward, despite it all -- no matter how rough things get, no matter how fruitless your efforts might seem, no matter how cruel, callous, and uncaring the world may be, there's enough inherent value in fighting in the face of all that. Existential dread be damned. Victory lies at the end of this road, and you have to walk it first to even have a chance at reaching it.

It's that sort of resolve that can get him to grit his teeth and bear whatever obstacles he might face, it's what pushes him to the peak of his abilities, to the top ranks of his class, to victory. Without that sort of resolution, his side of this seemingly hopeless war wouldn't have a future -- but he paved the way with his own blood and tears.

He's the sort of guy that could bear the weight of the world on his shoulders without a complaint ever leaving the confines of his own head. From the start, he was ready to bear it all on himself without realizing what a lonely, painful life that might be. His self-denial would be the death of him if he didn't have anything holding him back.

What most see of him isn't any of this, however. What belies his outer self is one matter, his treatment of others is another. For the most part, he's courteous, respectful, and even at one point was considered eloquent. He has the capacity for making dramatic speeches, and most of the time is reconsidering things within his own head, giving way to lengthy, insightful monologues. If there was ever a more reflective person, you would have trouble finding them.

There's something to be said about being a soldier: it's bullshit. And in becoming a soldier, you're basically learning how to live with all that bullshit. There's so much bullshit that you'd need wings to fly above it. Eren's initial behavior about getting shit done at the earliest opportunity found its place within the military complex. He settled in nicely.

That in mind, there's always some sort of issues. When it came to the recruits, there were obnoxious braggarts that just couldn't help being the most outright selfish pieces of shit -- well, he didn't have it in him to hold back. He argued. He definitely had the capacity to argue. Eren's temperament wasn't the sort that could let someone get away with leaving their defeatism sit in the air. The worst part was that the fucker in question wasn't gonna have a word of it, and almost smugly remained ignorant as ever. What an asshole!

For Eren, rather than a ticket to the easy life, being a soldier was a duty. It was a responsibility to the people they owed their well-being to. Everything they ate, what they wore, and the very chance to take the fight to the enemy was all thanks to the citizenry's tax money. To avidly spit on that was an offense to not just him, but to the very foundation of what made them all soldiers.

It's that very same desire to argue against immoral behavior that sets the stepping stones for his motivations. If the world was a cruel place, he would want to see it be merciful. If there is no freedom for the people inhabiting the walls, he would want to see them able to live freely. There existed definite evil within the world, and he would dispense justice to those vermin.

This deeply set moral foundation was enough to give him the willpower to save a little girl from her kidnappers at the young age of nine. They were murderer-slavers that were going to sell her into the black market to perverts. They deserved what they got -- what Eren gave them was a taste of their own medicine. But at the same time, there's some part of him that recognized an issue there.

You see, there's a caveat to this determination and moralistic thinking of his. It necessitates the presence of an enemy. This worked well as far as those monstrous, fully-functional mindless villains went, but when it came down to fighting humans? His greatest teacher? His dearest friends? It becomes many layers more complex than that. His solution was to rationalize it all as part of his duty as a soldier.

If Eren puts the greatest value on personal freedom, then the most reprehensible act one can commit in his eyes is taking the freedom of others away. It's that he's been fortunate enough to lack the information to make a complete judgment on his enemies that he can still bear to live and fight another day. His enemies, after all, deserve it for what they've done and continue to do. He has to kill them. But at some point or another, he'll have to face the facts: you can kill humans, but you can't kill human nature.
POWERS:
-trained military. As it would imply, he's got years of practice with all the rigorous discipline and knowledge that comes with it. He's lived most of his life as a trooper. Every soldier is trained in the vertical maneuvering gear, a sort of grappling hook that flies in conjunction with pressurized gas that spews out from a mechanism contained on the lower back. In order to perform maintenance on it, soldiers are trained extensively in engineering. Notable other skills include unarmed combat, horseback riding, and strategy. He himself is particularly skilled in hand-to-hand, making top of his class with it.

-regeneration. He can regenerate everything from his balls to his brain given enough time. The caveat is if his spinal fluid is leaked, he's dead for good.

-titan shifting. Triggered via wounds, he can explosively summon and pilot (from within) a fifty-foot-tall <s>Zyzz clone</s> emo giant. It, too can regenerate.

-coordinate. Though it's generally used for mind control, its full power is implied to be godlike, with its influence reigning outside of time and space. (NOTE: None of this will apply to the vast majority of characters that will show up. It only affects a very specific niche of people that exist only in Eren's series alone. He's a soldier through and through, COST fits him like a glove.
ITEM: His maneuvering gear.
CHARACTER id SUGGESTIONS: kruger.
HOW DID YOUR CHARACTER JOIN COST? I'd say he lost his memory of the event.

comments
